Compress Images and Convert HEIC to JPG

Shrink images for email, online forms or faster web pages, and turn iPhone HEIC photos into JPGs that open anywhere. Add many images at once, then download them one by one or as a .zip.

Output format

Keeps the original format. HEIC and other formats are converted to JPG.

Around 70–80% is a good balance between sharpness and file size.

Smaller images keep their size.

How to use it

  1. Click "Choose images" or drop images into the box. Add up to 50 at a time, including iPhone HEIC photos.
  2. Pick the output format, quality and maximum size. Images are processed again as soon as you change an option.
  3. Compare the size before and after, then download each image or all of them in one .zip file.

Which format should you pick?

If you only need smaller files, keep the format and set the quality to about 75%. When the format matters, use this table:

FormatBest forKeep in mind
JPGPhotos, email attachments, upload formsOpens everywhere. No transparent background.
WebPImages on websites and blogsSmaller than JPG at the same sharpness. Some older apps and forms do not accept it.
PNGScreenshots, logos, transparent backgroundsLossless, but large for photos.

What is HEIC, and why do these photos fail to open?

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default ("High Efficiency") to save storage. The quality is fine, but Windows cannot open them without an extra extension, and many websites and upload forms only accept JPG or PNG.

This tool converts HEIC to JPG in your browser. The first HEIC photo loads a decoder of about 3 MB from AX Tools 365 itself, later ones reuse it. To make your iPhone shoot JPG directly, go to Settings → Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible".

Need to combine photos of documents into one PDF? Use the images to PDF tool.

Your photos stay on your device

  • Images are processed in your browser and never uploaded to AX Tools 365 or anyone else.
  • Saved images no longer carry EXIF data such as the GPS location or camera model.
  • Nothing is kept: close or reload the page and the images are gone.

Frequently asked questions

Does compressing an image make it blurry?

+

Hardly noticeable at a quality of 70 to 85 percent. Below 60 percent you start to see smudges in fine detail. You can check the new size and download a test image before using it.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

+

No. Images are read and compressed inside the browser on your device. Once the page has loaded you can go offline and it still works, except for the first HEIC photo, which needs to load the decoder.

How do I convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG?

+

Add the HEIC photos here, leave the format on Keep format or JPG, then download. The JPG files open on Windows, Android and any website.

Why does my PNG not get smaller?

+

PNG is lossless, so saving it again barely reduces the size and can even increase it. Pick JPG or WebP, or limit the image dimensions.

How do I get an image under 1 MB or under 500 KB?

+

Limit the longest side to 1920 px or 1280 px and set the quality to about 75 percent. Phone photos usually end up at a few hundred KB. If it is still too large, lower the quality or size further.
