Claude Code and Cursor both start at $20 per month, but they are different kinds of tools:

  • Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent. You describe a task ("add a login page", "fix the failing tests") and it reads your project, plans, edits files and runs commands. It runs in your terminal, has extensions for VS Code and JetBrains, and is available in the desktop and web apps.
  • Cursor is a code editor built on VS Code with inline Tab completions, chat and an Agent inside the editor.

A plus for Claude Code: the same Claude Pro subscription also gives you Claude chat for docs, analysis and email.

2. Workflow

  • Claude Code suits people who delegate and review: describe the goal, let the agent work through several steps, then review the changes.
  • Cursor suits people who want AI alongside every line: suggestions as you type, quick inline edits and visual diffs in the editor.

They are not mutually exclusive – many developers run Claude Code in their editor's integrated terminal, Cursor included.

3. Limits

  • Claude Pro limits reset per 5-hour session; a heavy session can run out before it ends.
  • Cursor Pro has unlimited Tab completions; the Agent has its own limits, with Pro+ or Ultra for heavy use.

4. Which one?

  • Already paying for Claude Pro: try Claude Code first – it costs nothing extra.
  • Want constant inline suggestions: Cursor.
  • Mostly in the terminal, on servers or across many repos: Claude Code.
  • Need a free option: Cursor Hobby or GitHub Copilot Free; Claude Code has no free tier.
